The road to treatment 13

The road to treatment 13

On August 28, 2023 we had an online meeting with Professor Jeffrey Goldberg en Dr. Marius Wernig from Stanford University. This discussion revolved around the exciting potential of regeneration for various patient groups with optic nerve damage, including those affected by ADOA.

In ADOA, optic nerve damage is the main cause behind vision loss. In some individuals, the progression of ADOA has been severe, leading to the loss of a significant portion of the optic nerve cells. This situation results in only 5-10% residual vision. Our focus is on helping these individuals, where regeneration can play a crucial role in replenishing the lost cells of the optic nerve.

Stanford University is a global pioneer in this field and leads groundbreaking research. Last but not least, Stanford is an important partner in the recently established RGC Repopulation, Stem Cell Transplantation, and Optic Nerve Regeneration Consortium. This consortium has set itself the goal of tackling the numerous challenges within this field.

The Cure ADOA Foundation is closely monitoring these developments. We recently published an article on our website that delves deeper into these developments. You can read it here: The road to treatment 11.

Stanford's world-class laboratories are uniquely equipped to tackle this pervasive problem. However, to apply this knowledge specifically to ADOA, targeted research is needed that extends over several years. With this goal, the Cure ADOA Foundation has decided to financially support this research in the coming years.

To continue this specialized research, we depend on a constant flow of donations. Your contributions will have a direct impact on advancing this critical cause. Please join us in this mission by making a donation here: Donation options.
