Running weekend for people with visual impairment: the fifth edition of the NN Running Blind Weekend.

Two participants run happily during the NN Running Blind Weekend. They hold an orange buddy cord.

For the fifth consecutive year, Nationale-Nederlanden is organizing the NN Running Blind Weekend in collaboration with Uniek Sporten. This running event, specifically for people with visual impairments, will take place on Saturday, November 15th, and Sunday, November 16th, and is open to both beginners and experienced runners.

Accessible running event

As a supporter of all runners, NN is committed to making running more inclusive. NN is doing this together with partners including the Running Blind Foundation and the Disabled Sports Fund (Uniek Sporten). The NN Running Blind Weekend is open to all runners with a visual impairment, young or old, and whether you've been running for years or are just starting out.

During the NN Running Blind Weekend, participants will have everything they need taken care of. For example, special training programs are available leading up to the event, there are dedicated reception areas and starting areas, runners will be escorted to and from the start, there are bib numbers in Braille, and much more. If a participant doesn't have a buddy, an experienced buddy will be found who can safely support them during the race. It promises to be a unique experience for Running Blind runners.

Program

On Saturday, November 15th, the NN Mini Running Blind (400 and 800 meters, especially for children) and the 7 kilometers are on the program. On Sunday, November 16th, the 15 kilometers will take place. The most experienced runners with a visual impairment will compete for the title of the unofficial Dutch Running Blind Championship. The NN Running Blind Weekend is part of the NN Zevenheuvelenloop in Nijmegen.

Tournament Director Michel Butter

Fourteen-time Dutch champion Michel Butter has been appointed tournament director of the NN Running Blind Weekend. "Sports aren't a given for people with a visual impairment. But running is often possible, as proven by all the enthusiastic Running Blind athletes who enjoy running with their buddies."

"My goal is to spread this joy further. Because running can contribute to a better energy balance and overcoming social barriers and insecurities. This should be more widely known, and that's exactly what I'm committed to as the proud tournament director of the NN Running Blind Weekend," says Butter.
