Six technasium students from the Roelof van Echten College in Hoogeveen are developing smart glasses for people with a visual impairment. With this innovative idea, they won the Drenthe final of the school challenge 'We have the future'. Do you also want to contribute to the development of these smart glasses? About the glasses
The glasses use technology that is comparable to a parking sensor in a car. A smart camera recognizes objects and obstacles in the environment. The user receives a warning, for example via a vibration. This makes it possible to move more safely, even if not everything is visible.
The aid consists of glasses and a chain with sensors that warn of obstacles in the eyes and
torso height. It is intended as a supplement to the cane.
About the assignment
The assignment was to come up with a solution for a person with a visual impairment, who has difficulty seeing oblique angles and is sensitive to large differences in light. The team's goal: to develop an aid that really works in everyday life.
The havo 4 students, who work together under the name Team FCKan, took part in a challenge for secondary school students from Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe. The jury praised the team for its practical approach and collaboration with the target group. For example, the team worked closely with Royal Visio and got
valuable input from experts by experience.
