Travel and transportation

From A to B

Public transport

Did you know that there are special arrangements for visually impaired people on public transport? For example, you can apply for a Public Transport Companion Card through Argonaut for public transport. This card allows someone to travel with you for free. Click here to read more about this. Or call 030-2354661 immediately to request a supervisor card.

No supervisor necessary, but you can use some help to get from platform 1 to platform 6. Then the NS also offers travel assistance. Read more here.

Transport to hospital

The health insurer will reimburse hospital transport if a person with low vision can only travel with assistance. Information about this can be found with your own health insurer. Please note that there is an annual co-payment (€111). This is therefore only possible for regular visits. Hospital transport can also be arranged under the Social Support Act (WMO), which was described above.

Taxi transport for recreational trips

Valys is for travelers with a mobility impairment who want to make social-recreational trips outside their own region. On a family visit or a day out? For short distances there is a local or regional transport system in many places, but if you want to travel further afield there is Valys. Valys can be used if you travel further than 5 public transport zones or 25 km from your home address. All this for an attractive rate.

Valys also offers various options to combine the taxi with the train. Read all about Valys here.

Rejected for the driver's license, now what?

If your visual acuity is lower than 0.5/50% or your horizontal field of view is smaller than 120 degrees, you are formally no longer allowed to drive a car. In this case, the ophthalmologist can refer you to Visio for the AutO-Mobility program. It will then be determined whether you are still allowed to drive a BTS.

Read all about the Auto-Mobility program herea. This page also contains information about participating safely in traffic without a car, or call 088 585 85 85 directly.

Read here also the story of Kirsten Smit. She drives a BTS.
